The future of Tennis is here. Two of the most talented, spectacular and explosive young players met in the first round of 2018 Australian Open.
Denis Shapovalov and Stefanos Tsitsipas share two of the most beautiful one handed backhands in World Tennis right now.
Even though the Greek young player executed a good plan, his movement was slow and he lacked composure during the big moments.
The Canadian took the initiative and dominated all aspects since the beginning of the match. He took risks and they paid of. The Next Gen Superstar served big and showed great skill in keeping Tsitsipas way back behind the baseline.
Shapovalov managed powerful rallies and deciding volleys, being confident both from baseline and the net.
Overall, the 18 years old overpowered Stefanos, taking advantage of his superior speed and the overall better understanding of his skills. Shapovalov deservedly went through the second round, in a categorical fashion, 6-1, 6-3, 7-6 (5).
This rivalry looks like an exciting one and I’m sure it will develop to be great for the future of Tennis, if the players stay grounded and healthy.
