The top seeds started to crash from Australian Open 2018. And we didn’t had to wait for long, even from the first day of competition.
Home favorite, Matthew Ebden, managed to knock out the former number 1 American, John Isner. Retirement might be on the cards for the tall player, as he is struggling to keep up with the big competitions for a while now.
The Australian claimed one of the biggest shocks of the first round, taking the match – 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.
So now number 1 American, Jack Sock, and number 2, John Isner, are sent packing.
Kyle Edmund is a young player which works a lot and is powerful enough, but never showed great hope or talent for a big future. He is well-skilled in almost all aspects, lacking in speed and perhaps mental strength.
Nevertheless, the Briton managed to fight his way through victory, eliminating the 2017 US Open’s finalist, Kevin Anderson, in a cruel 5 setter – 6-7(4), 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
The France number 2, Lucas Pouille, is a very talented young player, but he is still inconsistent and unpredictable. He fell to Belgian Ruben Bemelmans, a player more known for Davis Cup, 6-4, 6-4, 6-7 (4), 7-6 (6).
